Top Ten Tuesday: The Last Ten Books I’ve Obtained

50ab0-toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday, participating book bloggers blog about their top ten lists.

This Week’s Topic: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession (bought, library, review copies)

I haven’t been too proactive with obtaining books these last few weeks. I’ve been reading what I have, writing blog posts, and just enjoying my summer vacation. Reading hasn’t really been a top priority but I have obtained some books. Trying to remember all of them will probably be a little difficult as I don’t keep track of all the books I get but I’ll try my best.

Not all books that I got are shown in this picture! Some were ebooks and I had to return other ones.

  1. FLCL Volume 2  by Hajime Ueda, Gainex
When I watched the anime I didn’t even like it all that much. But I picked it this one up at the library as a prize for finishing my Summer Reading Log (in which you have to read 15 hours) because there weren’t any books that were appropriate for my age left and because manga is really expensive. I’ll probably end up gifting this to one of my friends.
  2. Froi of the Exiles (Finnikin of the Rock #2) by Melina Marchetta
I got this lovely book from the library last week although I still haven’t read the first book. I own the first book and I got the second solely in an attempt to make myself read it. I love Marchetta but I’m so bad with reading all her books.
  3. The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #3) by Michelle Hodkin
From the library so I can prepare for when I finish the second book and immediately need the third book. It’s a good reason.
  4. The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
This is a souvenir of sorts from the Shanghai Bookstore. It was exceptionally cheap and in English. I’m pretty sure I could get this from a book in the U.S.A but I also wanted to get something that I knew I’d end up reading and keeping regardless of if I liked it or not. I was not about to get The Fault in Our Stars new and expensive at a Chinese bookstore. I also got Game of Thrones as a gift to my uncle, who only watches the show and refuses to ever read the book. Then again he probably would absolutely hate reading it because English isn’t his first language.
  5. Captain Marvel (Marvel NOW! #1) by Kelly Sue DeConnick, David Lopez, and Lee Loughridge
I have no clue how to review comic books or what is considered “good” in comic book world. But I finished this one and enjoyed it even if the plot was rather simple. Also, I don’t understand why every comic book by Marvel has to have a romantic pairing. Especially when said romantic pairing changes every book.
  6. Superman and the Legion of Superheros by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Jon Sibal
Everything I said about Captain Marvel applies here. With the addition of the fact that while I am excited to read another comic book, this one has a really, really lame name. But this is my first foray into DC Comics so that’s exciting.
  7. Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye: A Novel by Tania del Rio and Will Staehle
I saw this book while watching a PeruseProject video. Regan talked about how it was the same artist that did… Lemony Snicket’s books? Not sure but I liked the art styles and saw this one on Netgalley so I requested it.
  8. End of Days (Penryn & The End of Days #3) by Susan Ee
    I’ve been flailing over this series for far too long. And yes I finished the third book. I liked it but I had to return it to the library because someone had a hold on it ;;
  9. Another Day by David Levithan
I hated the companion book, Every Day so I’m not at all sure why I even bothered requesting this book on Netgalley. I think it’s because I thought I’d be rejected because it’s a popular author. I also wanted to give Levithan another chance because I haven’t read any of his other books.
  10. Six Impossible Things by Fiona Wood
I got an ARC of this one from NOVL. I haven’t read it but I plan on doing so soon. It looked really cute!

Aaand that’s that! I haven’t been borrowing too many books from the library. A lot of these books were ones that I picked up a month ago. What about you guys? What is one book you recently picked up that you are super excited to read?

  1. Ha ha I totally understand your need for the third book in the Mara Dyer series! XD The series is simply great, I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books! I actually haven’t read any of David Levithan’s books, I have been meaning to though. And I’m glad you enjoyed End of Days, although I liked the first two a bit better, it was still a good book. ❤ Great list!

  2. The really funny thing is that when I first had a glance at your list. I thought the first two titles weren’t even in English. Froi was probably what threw me off. XD And I really want to pick up the Angelfall series (because you obviously enjoyed it and I’m hoping to get to meet Susan Ee at Yallfest this fall) and Every Day soon!

  3. I wish! Going to a book festival is definitely goals and Yallfest looks like a lot of fun. (Btw I’m totally expecting you to make a recap post so I can live through it) I was thinking that I could probably stay at a friend’s house before I realized “Oh yeah… North and South Carolina are two completely different states.” So that… might not have been too smart XD

  4. It’s actually not completely official if I’m going for sure just because that’s a school weekend. I’m also taking one of my friends to go and she’s only in HS so I’m not sure if her mom will be down for it yet, and I don’t want to go alone. But fingers crossed, I will make one if I do go! AND LOL, that made me laugh ridiculously hard for some reason. XD
