I’m very, very conflicted on how I should feel about this one.

On one hand, it’s over. I kind of liked how the whole series ended but I’m also kind of dissatisfied.

Let me clarify on that.

When I first finished the book, I just kind of put it down and breathed deeply because the series was finally over. I haven’t read a series where I’ve felt the need to finish it as soon as I can in a really, really long time. I have yet to decide if this final was a good one or bad one. The ending was cool. I thought it made sense that they would do what they did. It felt very appropriate for what exactly they were trying to do. When reading, there was a lot going on but it still flowed in a way that made it easy to understand.

But it also felt silly. For a final stand it was very anticlimatic. It wasn’t as moving or as desperate as I had imagined it to be. It felt a little cartoon-y at times. And at the end of it all, it felt very cliché. Where Raffe and Penryn end up at the end of the book and how it ends is cliché and predictable. I was pretty happy when I first finished the book, but once I sat down and thought about it, I realized that I wanted more from it.

For the rest of the book… okay I’m not gonna lie. I loved the beginning. We learn more about Raffe’s past and a lot about why exactly Beliel is so cruel. I absolutely adored reading about their experiences during those parts.

On the subject of Raffe and Penryn… Ugh no. I’m sorry but this book made me ship them a lot less. Angelfall was cute and had the love-hate relationship banter that was hilarious. World After was angsty and much more emotionally involved but still had the funny banter. End of Days did have banter but what stood out for me was the awkward attempts at being intimate. I don’t mean sex. I mean like… Penryn making Raffe touch her breast while he’s sleeping and really awkward dry humping/grinding while flying. Like ok I get that they’re in a situation where they can’t be together and that Raffe can fly but that doesn’t mean that even their intimate moments need to be in the air. Instead of being intimate and sweet, it felt awkward and uncomfortable. And the way they ended? Please. I need more than that. I barely even get to see them together.

There’s a whole lot of negative in this review. But the book wasn’t even that bad. It’s just that, as a finale, it seemed to have a lot more negative things that stuck out to me. It’s as interesting and as good a read as the others. It’s just wasn’t everything that I’d wanted.

(And even if they had those awkward llama intimate interactions, I still ship them. Just a teensy bit less.)

So End of Days wasn’t my favorite book in the series (that goes to Angelfall) but it had my favorite parts. Beliel’s past was so sad ;;; If any of you have read this one, did you have the same opinions that I did?
